Frequently asked questions
These are the questions we get most often about image capture.
How large can you scan/photograph?
Most small, non-textured works will be scanned. Textured pieces or large works will be photographed. There’s no limit on the size as long as it fits through our front door!
Are there different size options?
Yes! We offer mid-quality captures which are great for high quality CAFE and web images as well as prints up to around 20”x30”.
We also have high-quality captures that are good for prints up to around 40”x60”.
Tell me more about color correction.
Color correction is really what makes this service different than having your art photographed by a professional photographer in your space. They’ll get a good image, but their service ends there. We’ll print hard proofs and edit the file so that the prints look as close to the original artwork as possible. You’ll get a hard proof to review as part of the service.
Can’t I just photograph my art with my phone?
Sure, go ahead! Make sure to get the lighting as even as possible and avoid glare. Your final prints won’t be as high quality as with a professional capture, but we’ve worked with tons of phone pics that people are very happy with.
I already have a file, can you color correct?
Yes, if you have a file that’s sufficient quality and can give us the original artwork, we can do the color correction.
I don’t plan to get prints, can you still scan my art?
Yes! We’ll provide you a high resolution file that’s color corrected. No need to order prints, but you’ll always have that option for the future!
How will I receive my files?
We’ll share them via online file share. You’ll get a high resolution print quality file and a lower resolution web file.
What if I’m not local?
If the works are small enough or you really love us, you can send the work to us! We’ll photograph/scan it, then mail you proofs to review. Once you approve, we can return the original work or send it on to it’s final destination.
If sending the work to us isn’t practical, we recommend having it professionally photographed or scanned locally. Then, order some proofs from us. Give us feedback on the proofs you get, or do color correction yourself. We work with tons of artists around the world for drop shipping that handle things this way.
Can you do additional editing?
Yes, we can accommodate most editing requests, just let us know what you’re looking for.
What about fluorescent ink or gold leaf?
We’ll get as close to those colors as digital printing allows, but the prints won’t be shiny like that. We’ve done lots of gold leaf and can make the prints look really good!
Can I use you for photos but get printing elsewhere.
We’re the best print shop around, so obviously you’ll want to use us! But, in case you do go elsewhere, the files are yours to keep and use however you want. You’re not locked in with us. However, our color correction is for our printers. It’s unlikely to look a ton different elsewhere, but it probably won’t look identical to our proof.
