How Jerry Rael Manages Art Shipping

Local Denver artist Jerry Rael finds his drive to create from his experience with injustice. It seeps through each of his pieces that are often displaying his connection to the Native American Culture. He considers his art to be abstract emotionalism. “My paintings are about the world of color and I use colors that aren't typically realistic for people because I’m more interested in the abstract and the color and emotional part that goes into my paintings''. But, like most artists, he can get hung up on the logistics of his art business. Things like shipping and offering art prints can be challenging.

Art Philosophy

Jerry’s art is full of spiritual elements that are connected to his heritage of the Native American community. It can be felt just by looking at his pieces.

Primarily using acrylics, Jerry is trying new techniques to save time while creating new art. Masking with 3mm blue tape so he can focus on background and foreground, does take a bit of time but he has found it helps him save more time in the end.

Four years ago, when he took a trip to Standing Rock, he was impacted by seeing the true burden the people carry there, and since then has been creating art that displays that experience. He says it well, “I’ve done nothing but paint something to do with Standing Rock. The spiritual connection there from that trip. I feel like my paintings show that emotion and that's the spirit coming through in my paintings”.

Art Shipping Pain Points

The biggest issue Jerry would run into was the cost of shipping for his art and prints. When he learned about Colorado art shipper Shipist he was able to significantly reduce costs. “It's been a 180 improvement. By using shipist I’ve probably been able to save at least 2/3s of the money I was spending on shipping!” Outside of getting to cut costs, he loves the warm and inviting atmosphere and the friendly staff at Shipist.

Jerry has also strived to make his art more widely and easily accessible through art prints. Printist has teamed up with him to make his incredible art in print form. “The great thing about prints is that your art still gets out there”. We couldn’t agree more! He is now able to sell his prints to more people. “I'm not in it for the money's sake, what I want to do is make my customers happy and by allowing me to sell them a piece that becomes a part of their home... It helps many people spiritually, mentally.”

Jerry’s work carries so much of his heart and connection to his Native American culture and his desire to see people treated with respect and care. It shines through his work and his daily deeds. “There is only one race and that’s the human race. It's about time we start treating each other with the respect that each one of us deserves. So that’s what my paintings convey to me”.
